Starting my own baking business from home
If you’re like me and afraid of rejection by creating a business and putting yourself out there, I’m going to share my exact method for “accidently” creating my dream business.
I went from never having sold baked goods in my life, to being booked with orders in less than 2 months and I’m going to tell you just how I did it in this "Home Bakery Business" series.

The idea to sell my baked goods was a seed planted by my mom. She was at my house on Christmas Day and I showed her these Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies I had made. She took a bite of one, looked me dead in the face and said, you could sell these.
It resonated.
People have always loved my baked goods. Baking was fun for me and it came naturally. I also loved decorating sugar cookies.

I had actually just hosted a “friends-mas” party for my kids and ALL of their friends a couple weeks prior in which I set up my dining room table for cookie decorating. It was quite the ordeal, here's a photo of our cookie-decorating station.
For Christmas that year, my mom had given me a cookie cutter that was the famous "red truck" with a Christmas Tree in the back. Christmas came and went and I found myself still wanting to decorate cookies. Specifically the "truck and tree cookies. So I did.

What is a Home Bakery?
A home bakery is a business operated from a residential kitchen, typically specializing in baked goods. It can range from a small-scale operation focused on local customers to a larger business with online sales.
Potential Benefits of Starting a Home Bakery
Some of the reasons that I love having a home bakery is that I can set my own schedule. I take my kids to school and pick them up everyday instead of paying someone else to. I love taking back the freedom to be a mom and parent.
With a cookie decorating business, you can easily work ahead and freeze cookies (they actually taste better after freezing) and there are many different ways you can scale and grow your business.
Decorating cookies satisfies my need for a creative outlet and making cookies for others satisfies my need for serving others.
There are several advantages to starting a home bakery:
Flexibility: You can set your own hours and work from home.
Low startup costs: Compared to traditional brick-and-mortar bakeries, the initial investment is often lower.
Passion project: You can turn your hobby into a profitable business.
Creative outlet: Baking allows you to express your creativity through your products.
First thing is first, you need to figure out what your potential customers want. If you make incredible macarons and non one in your neck of the woods has ever her the word and they're all saying macaroons...
I'm just saying choose your battles.
You could groom your audience into potentially liking what you're selling or you can give them what they want.
Target Audience for a Home Bakery
Your target audience will depend on the type of baked goods you offer.
Some potential customer categories include:
Local residents: Focus on building relationships with your neighbors and local markets.
Special events: Cater to weddings, birthdays, and corporate events.
Online customers: Sell your products through an online store or marketplace.
Specific dietary needs: Offer products for individuals with allergies or dietary restrictions.
By understanding your target audience, you can tailor your products to meet your customer’s needs and be a highly sought after business.
